SolarPower Europe in collaboration with the Africa-EU Renewable Energy Cooperation Programme (RECP) hosted the “On-Grid Solar: Africa Investment Forum” on June 23rd at Intersolar in Munich, Germany. The event promoted African solar markets and also brought together the European and African solar industry with financiers and other key market participants.
The potential of solar energy for the African continent cannot be overstated. In order to support Africa’s continuing economic growth and sustainable development, generation capacity on the continent will have to quadruple by 2040. Solar as a proven technology with an indisputable track record will be critical on a continent that boasts twice the insolation of traditional European markets in many regions. However, smart solutions and strong private investments are needed to achieve this goal.
SolarPower Europe and the RECP organized a structured information and matchmaking event that brought together businesses and financiers. Intersolar trade show visitors, SolarPower Europe members, developers, investors and representatives from Africa and Europe took part in the side event and joined the matchmaking session.
The official part was followed by an informal drinks reception at the SolarPower Europe booth B2.410 from 18:00 on where delegates continued their talks in a relaxing atmosphere. The drinks reception was kindly supported by RECP, the Global Solar Council and BSW – Bundesverband Solarwirtschaft e.V.
