The workshop convened project developers, policy-makers, financiers and crowdfunding experts to discuss about opportunities in energy community driven projects in Nigeria. Welcome remarks were led by Policy Officer Ali Mir from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development in Germany and Deputy CEO Bruce Douglas from SolarPower Europe.

During the workshop, RECP and BSW-Solar presented their support programmes in Nigeria. Moreover, ecoligo and bettervest gave an introduction respectively on how their crowdinvestment platforms can support renewable energy projects. Both companies argued that one of the most attracting features of crowd investments is access to investments with lower interest rates compared to commercial banks.

Finally, three Nigerian entrepreneurs presented their captive power projects and explained the opportunities and challenges in this field. Two of these projects are part of the RECP Demand Stimulation portfolio in Nigeria. Through the Demand Stimulation service, the RECP seeks to support renewable energy projects led by companies within the commercial and industry market segment. A first cohort of 10 companies willing to generate their own electricity are currenlty supported by the RECP to conduct prefeasibility studies.

The workshop was part of a series of activities supported by RECP, including the Off-Grid Power Exhition and the participation of over 20 energy project developers coming from Nigeria, Senegal, Rwanda and Uganda to attend Intersolar.

After the workshop, a networking session allowed participants to discuss business opportunities in the renewable energy sector.
